The real steel KTR-03 was a custom AK rifle built by Krebs Custom Guns. Based on the AK Saiga receiver, it is an upgraded version of the classic Kalashnikov with a few added features.

The airsoft version has the exact features with the proprietary 3-position M1913 Picatinny rail system/forend rail tube. On top, you can find AR-15/M16 style windage-adjustable rear sight with a elevation-adjustable front sight post. The grip is a M249 SAW style pistol grip with a 5 position LE stock. What we have here is a mutt but we all know that mutts are very intelligent and it is a very intelligent design.

The tri-rail is enough for plenty of accessories and the top rail has enough space for a mid-range scope or sight. It also features a left-side Galil-style manual thumb safety with a AK style safety selector switch on the opposite side.

Like many KSC gas blow back guns, the kick is very impressive and once it goes into full auto, the 14 rounds per second will surely make your crown jewels tickle a little. The Galil-style manual thumb safety is also the fire selector which is hugely convenient for right handed players who prefer not to take their hand off the grip.

In 1991 the Izhmash factory in the city of Izhevsk began full scale production of a modernized variant of the AK-74, the AK-74MN "modernized", folding stock assault rifle that offers more versatility compared to its predecessor. Apart from several minor production improvements, such as a lightened bolt and carrier assembly, the rifle features a new synthetic stock made from a black, glass-filled poly-amide that is shaped like the AK-74 fixed stock, but also side-folds like in the AKS-74. Additionally the AK-74MN uses an improved muzzle device and reinforced smooth dust cover. Each AK-74MN is fitted with a side-rail bracket for mounting optics.

If there was anything out there that is close to the real steel version, it would be this beauty. With its wood and steel construction, it gives it that weight and you can definitely feel it as you pull the trigger. The recoil is not light and would surprise you! Add a side mount rail and a scope on top of that and you'll own something that'll rate highly in the badassery scale! Having seen the effectiveness of the German Stg-44 during WWII first hand, Mikhail Kalashnikov designed his own idea for a modern system based on the concept of a select fire fully automatic assault weapon chambered in an intermediate cartridge. Much less powerful then the battle rifles of previous decades, it made up for it with superior fire power with its higher rate of fire and a 30 round magazine that could be changed easily.

Love it or hate it, the AK family is an iconic system in the halls of all weapons in human history, let alone its own era. It is featured on the national flags of more then one country, used by countless militaries and armed forces with some hundred million being made in the past half century.

Looking at the externals, it is primarily made of wood and steel apart from the pistol grip and magazine which is made out of plastic much like the real steel version. Folding the stock makes it highly maneuverable in compact spaces.
